# How Cred Count Works

A guide to every part of the app, and the answers to what people ask most. Can't find what you need? Write to us at <support@credcount.app> and a person will answer. For anything about your data, write to <privacy@credcount.app>.

## Getting Started <!-- start, flag -->

Cred Count has four tabs: **Today**, **Explore**, **Logbook** and **Stats**. Settings is behind the gear on Today. Everything that works on your logs as a whole (backups, Smart Import, exports) is in the Logbook, under **Tools**.

The whole catalogue comes inside the app, so it works from the first moment, with or without a signal. To log a ride, tap the round **+** at the foot of any tab. That is Quick Log.

### Do I need an account?

No. There is nothing to sign up for, no email and no password. Your logs are kept on your phone.

### Does it work without a signal?

Yes. Logging, search, your count, trophies and stats all work offline. Only catalogue updates, Smart Import, Google Drive backup and sending us corrections need a connection.

### What is "today's park"?

Set the park you are at and the **+** grows into a pill across the foot of every tab: the park and today's count, a stopwatch to time dispatches, and the **+**, which now opens straight on that park's attractions.

Set it from Today (**SET ACTIVE PARK**), from a park's page (**Set as today's park**), or just by logging: the first ride you log at a park sets it, if none is set yet.

### How do I end the park day?

Tap the **✕** on the pill, or on Today's card for the day. It also ends by itself at midnight.

The park day is only a shortcut while you're at a park: it keeps the park's attractions one tap away and puts the day on your lock screen. Ending it changes nothing you've logged, and your day out is still there in the Logbook. Set the park again whenever you like, even the same day.

## Logging a Ride <!-- logging, touch_app -->

In Quick Log, **tap** an attraction and it is logged, with the date, the time and the park filled in. The ticket's stub rises from the foot: rate it in one tap, add your seat and notes, or **UNDO** it.

**Hold** an attraction instead for the whole log, drawn as a ticket: date and time, where you sat (train, row and seat, with a drawing of the train when we know it), your stars out of five, and a note.

You can also log from an attraction's own page: its button (**LOG A RIDE**, or **GET THE CRED** when it would be a new one) opens the whole ticket.

### How do I log rides from a past day?

In Quick Log, tap the day beside the search and choose **Yesterday** or **Another day…**. On a past day the sheet stays open and each tap adds one log. Tap **DONE** to keep them.

For a single log, change the **DATE** on its ticket.

### I logged an earlier ride. Why did my cred numbers change?

A cred belongs to your first ride on a coaster, by the date you rode it. Log an earlier ride and the cred moves to it; the later log becomes a ride. Your count stays the same, but cred numbers follow the order you rode in, so later ones can shift. If you see it differently, change **COUNT AS A CRED** on either log's ticket.

### How do I edit or delete a log?

Open it from the Logbook, or from a park's or an attraction's page, and tap **Edit log** in the corner. While you edit, **Delete log** takes the corner. The app asks first, and a deleted log can't be brought back.

### Can I delete several logs at once?

Yes. In the Logbook, hold a log to select it, then tap the others.

### Can I log a flat ride or a show?

Yes, any attraction. A show is logged as a visit rather than a ride. By default only coasters earn a cred.

### Can I give half stars?

No, ratings are whole stars out of five. Tap the chosen star again to clear it.

### What if the attraction isn't listed?

Search for it in Quick Log and tap **Log custom ride**. Add Your Own Attraction opens, and **CREATE & LOG IT** adds it and logs it in one go. See [Something Missing or Wrong](#missing).

## Counting Creds <!-- counting, star_rounded -->

Your first ride on a coaster is a cred. Every log is stamped **CRED** when it earns one and **RIDE** when it doesn't. The count is worked out on your phone from your logs.

Enthusiasts don't all count the same way, so you decide. **Count as a Cred** settles any one log, and **How You Count** sets your rules for coasters that are linked.

### How do I make a ride count, or not count?

On the log's ticket, tap the stamp, or use the **COUNT AS A CRED** switch under it. It works on any attraction, coaster or not, and your answer always wins: no recount ever changes it.

### What is How You Count?

Settings, then **How You Count**. It decides how coasters the catalogue links are counted:

- **One Track, Different Experiences** (VR or an overlay on the same coaster): one cred, or each counts. One cred to start with.
- **Coasters With Several Tracks** (Gemini, Steeplechase): a cred for each track, one on the first track, or one once every track is done. A cred for each track to start with.
- **At the Same Park** (rethemed, renamed or rebuilt, like Air and Galactica): same cred, or one each. Same cred to start with.
- **Moved to Another Park**: same cred, or one each. Same cred to start with.
- **Tracks Rebuilt Into One** (Gwazi into Iron Gwazi): a new cred, or the same. A new cred to start with.

Each can also be **Ask me**, so the app asks when you first log a linked ride. A change takes effect at once and tells you what it did to your count.

### My count changed after an update. Why?

Creds now count across linked coasters, following How You Count. The first time you open that version, the app shows you How You Count once, with a note saying your creds were counted again. Change any choice and your count follows. A log you set by hand with Count as a Cred keeps its answer.

### Can I treat one pair of linked coasters differently?

Yes. How You Count, then **Coasters You've Logged**, lists every linked set you have ridden more than one of. Choose for each, or let it follow your rules. **Reset Your Choices** puts them all back, and shows you what would change first.

### Which ride carries the cred when two count as one?

The earliest one you rode. To choose another, set Count as a Cred on its log.

### Is every linked ride in the catalogue linked yet?

Not yet. We are adding links as we go through the catalogue. If two rides should be linked, tell us from either one's page (**Something wrong or missing?**).

## Explore and Parks <!-- explore, explore -->

Explore holds every park in the catalogue, your parks first. Switch between **Every Park** and **Every Attraction**, and narrow by region, kind of attraction, or whether it is operating or gone. Or just start searching.

A park's page draws the park as its skyline, then lists its coasters and the rest of the park. An attraction's page has its figures, your logs and timings, and **The History**: every name, retheme and move in its life.

### How do I read a park's skyline?

- Each hill is an operating coaster that runs all year, left to right in the order they opened.
- Every park is drawn to the same scale, so a taller hill is a taller ride wherever it is, and parks can be compared.
- A coaster that turns you upside down is drawn as a loop.
- Your creds are lit.
- Tap a hill to name its coaster.

A day out redraws it in the order you rode: each coaster at the minute you rode it, lit for a new cred.

### How forgiving is search?

Very. Capitals, accents, punctuation and a leading "The" are ignored, words can come in any order, a typo or two is forgiven in longer words, and a coaster's former name still finds it. Short words and years must be exact.

### A coaster I rode has closed. Is it still there?

Yes. Closed parks and retired coasters stay in the catalogue, so old creds still count. A coaster you have logged is never taken off your phone, even if it leaves the catalogue.

### Why isn't a coaster on the skyline?

The skyline draws operating coasters that run all year. Seasonal ones are listed on the page but not drawn, and so are ones that have closed.

## Days Out and Trips <!-- days, luggage -->

A day out is one park on one day, made from your logs: nothing to create. Open one from the Logbook. Its page is the day's report: the day drawn as its skyline, its figures, the moments worth remembering, To Scale, every log in order, and room for your own words.

A trip gathers days out. Make one from the Logbook's **Trips**, or say yes when the app spots days close together (**Looks like a trip**). You can plan one ahead too.

### What is To Scale?

The day's figures, each drawn beside a real thing you'd know at the same scale: the height you climbed beside a landmark, the track you rode, your top speed. The things come with the app, so it works offline, and the same day always keeps the same comparison.

### How do I name a day?

Tap **NAME THIS DAY** under the headline on its page.

### How does a trip get its days?

A trip's dates take in every day you logged between them. Untick a day when you make or edit the trip and it stays out. A day can be in more than one trip, like a weekend inside a holiday.

### If I delete a trip, do I lose its rides?

No. The trip goes; its days and every ride stay in your Logbook.

## The Dispatch Timer <!-- timer, timer_outlined -->

Open it from the stopwatch on the park-day pill, or **Time its dispatches** on an attraction's page. Check the trains and riders per train (filled in where we know them), tap **START**, then tap **DISPATCH** each time a train leaves.

Pick one point every train passes, like the top of the lift hill, and tap as the front car crosses it every time. When you're done, slide to conclude and save the measurement.

### How is riders an hour worked out?

From the average interval between dispatches over the whole session, stoppages included, times the riders per train.

### What do the colours mean?

At first, the time since the last train is green under a minute, amber from a minute and red from 90 seconds. Once there is enough to go on (your earlier timings of the attraction, or five dispatches in this one), each dispatch is judged against the typical one: green when quick or on pace, amber when slow, red for a stoppage.

### I tapped too early. Can I fix it?

Yes. **Undo** takes back the last tap, and you can swipe away any one interval.

### What happens if I close the app mid-timing?

The timing carries on and the app reopens on it. You can also tap **DISPATCH** and **UNDO** from the lock screen, or from the notification on Android. An unfinished timing is cleared at midnight.

### Can I compare with earlier timings?

Yes. A saved measurement says how it compares with your other timings of that attraction, with your best and your typical.

## Stats and Trophies <!-- stats, emoji_events -->

Stats is your years in figures: rides logged, days out, dispatches timed, attractions ridden, the track you've ridden and the times you've been upside down, with your tallest, fastest and first cred. Tap a figure to see the logs behind it. Nothing compares you with anyone else.

Trophies are earned from your real logs, on your phone, and each remembers the ride and the day that earned it.

### Why did a trophy disappear?

Trophies are worked out from your logs. Delete the logs that earned one, or change how a ride counts, and it can go. Log again and it comes back.

### Do imported logs earn trophies?

Yes, dated by the logs that earned them, so a trophy your 2019 rides earn counts in 2019.

## Share Cards <!-- sharing, ios_share -->

A log, a milestone, a day out, a trip, a timing, a trophy or your whole count can become a card. Choose a post or a story shape, swipe between styles where a card has them, and hide your count if you'd rather. Cards are drawn on your phone and only go where you send them.

### Where do I find them?

Tap **Share** on a log, a day out, a trip, a measurement or a trophy, on the stub after a quick log, or **Share your count** in Stats.

### Why does saving a card ask about Photos?

On iPhone, saving needs permission to add to Photos. It can only add; it can't see your library.

## Smart Import <!-- import, table_chart -->

Bring years of rides from a spreadsheet: Logbook, **Tools**, **Smart Import**. Choose a file (CSV, Excel or text) or a Google Sheet, in any layout.

Smart Import sends a sample of the sheet to read how it is laid out, then your phone reads every row and matches your parks and attractions against the catalogue itself. You review what it found, settle the few it isn't sure of, and nothing joins your Logbook until you finish.

### What leaves my phone?

To read your layout, the first 100 rows of each sheet you choose, up to 4,000 characters, every column included. It passes through our server in Germany to Google's Gemini in the EU. Google never gets your device ID or IP address, and we don't keep the sample. If you'd rather not send your notes, delete that column first.

### What comes in?

The attraction, the park and the date of each ride. Ratings and notes in your sheet are not brought across.

### What happens to rows it can't match?

They go to the **Merge Point**, where you choose the park and the ride. Anything still unmatched can be saved as your own listing with its logs on it, or discarded.

### What about rows with no date?

They are saved without one, never as today. Set the date then or later.

### Can I stop halfway?

Yes. Leave and your progress is kept; next time Smart Import offers to resume.

### It failed, or says I've hit a limit.

**TRY AGAIN** resends the same file, and usually works. Smart Import can be used 5 times a day on a phone. A sheet works best as plain rows, one ride to a row. If it still won't go, write to <support@credcount.app> and we'll help.

## Something Missing or Wrong <!-- missing, add_location_alt -->

If an attraction or park isn't in the catalogue, add it yourself and it counts straight away. Your own listings are marked with a small pink dot, and only you can see them.

If something we list is wrong or missing, open its page and tap **Something wrong or missing?**. Change what's wrong and send it for review; only what you changed is sent.

### How do I add my own attraction or park?

From Quick Log (**Log custom ride** or **Add your own park**), from a park's page (**Add your own attraction**), from a search that finds nothing, or by holding the **+**.

### Will you add it for everyone?

Only if you offer it. After you add one, the app asks whether to send it to us; you can also send them later from Explore. Only its details are sent: never its private description, and never your logs. If we add it, your logs move onto our listing at the next catalogue update.

### How do catalogue updates reach my phone?

By themselves, each time you open the app. To check now, pull down on Today, or tap **UPDATE LIBRARY** in Settings.

### I sent a correction. What now?

The page says it is with us for review until we've looked at it. If you were offline, it is sent when you're back online.

## Backups and New Phones <!-- backup, cloud_upload -->

**Your logs live only on your phone.** We keep no copy, so we can't restore them for you. Keep your own: everything below is in the Logbook, under **Tools**.

- **Google Drive backup** backs itself up whenever you close the app, to a hidden folder in your own Drive that only Cred Count can open.
- A **Backup File** is a copy of everything you can keep anywhere, with no Google account.
- Your phone's own iCloud or Android backup includes Cred Count too.

### How do I set up Google Drive backup?

Tools, **Back Up to Google Drive**, then **LINK GOOGLE DRIVE** and allow Google's prompt. Cred Count can only see its own hidden folder, not your other files. Auto-Backup is on from the start; **Sync on Wi-Fi Only** holds it to Wi-Fi.

### What is in a backup?

Your logs and measurements, notes and ratings, trips and what you wrote about your days, trophies, your own listings, unfinished imports and your How You Count choices. Not your settings, like units and theme: set those again on a new phone.

### How do I move to a new phone?

With Drive: install Cred Count on the new phone, link the same Google account, and choose **DOWNLOAD MY BACKUP**.

With a file: on the old phone, Tools, **Backup File**, and save it somewhere the new phone can reach. On the new one, Tools, **Restore a Backup File**.

Both work between iPhone and Android. Your phone's own backup only goes from iPhone to iPhone or Android to Android.

### I linked Drive on a phone that already has logs. What happens?

If both hold logs, the app asks. **KEEP EVERYTHING** combines the two and deletes nothing. **USE BACKUP ONLY** replaces what's on the phone, after asking again.

### Can I use Cred Count on two devices, like a phone and an iPad?

Yes, through Google Drive backup: link both to the same Google account. Each device brings in the backup's changes when you open Cred Count or come back to it (at most every five minutes), and backs up its own changes when you leave it. So a ride logged on your phone appears on your iPad the next time you open Cred Count there, once you've left it on the phone.

If the same log is changed on both, the latest change wins. A log deleted on one device goes from the other too, unless it was changed there after it was deleted.

It isn't live: two devices open at once don't update each other. When you link the second one, choose **KEEP EVERYTHING** to combine what both hold.

### Does restoring a Backup File replace my logs?

No, it adds to them. Restoring the same file twice can make duplicates; the app warns you if it might have.

### Can I get my logs as a spreadsheet?

Yes. Tools, **Spreadsheet of Your Logs** or **Spreadsheet of Your Creds**. A spreadsheet is a copy to read, not a backup to restore: use a Backup File for that.

### What if I delete the app without a backup?

Everything goes with it: logs, trips, measurements, trophies and your own listings, and we can't recover any of it. Only a Drive backup, a Backup File or your phone's own backup can bring it back.

### How do I delete my Drive backup?

Unlinking leaves your backup in Drive. To delete it, go to drive.google.com, Settings, **Manage apps**, Cred Count, and choose **Delete hidden app data**. On iPhone, unlink Drive in the app before you uninstall it.

## Widgets and the Lock Screen <!-- outside, widgets -->

On your first park day the app asks whether to keep today on your lock screen: the park, today's count, and buttons to time and to log. On iPhone it is a Live Activity, and in the Dynamic Island; on Android, a notification. It clears at midnight.

Home-screen widgets show your count and the next milestone, or your latest cred or ride as its ticket.

### How do I turn the lock screen on or off?

Settings, **Today on the Lock Screen**. If it's on in the app but not showing, check that Live Activities (iPhone) or notifications (Android) are allowed for Cred Count in your phone's settings.

### My widget isn't up to date.

Widgets update when you log, when a park day starts or ends, at midnight, and when you open the app. On iPhone, iOS decides how often widgets refresh, so opening the app is the quickest fix.

### The Live Activity disappeared.

iPhone ends a Live Activity after 8 hours. Opening the app or logging a ride starts a new one. If you swiped it away, it stays hidden for that park day.

### Can people see my lock screen details?

Anyone who can see your lock screen sees the park, today's count and your latest ride. Turn it off in Settings if you'd rather they didn't.

## Wear OS <!-- watch, watch -->

With an Android phone and a Wear OS watch, install Cred Count on the watch too. It works on today's park, set on your phone: tap an attraction, then **GET CRED** or **LOG RIDE**. The dispatch timer runs on the watch as well (**MEASURE OPS**). Logs wait on the watch until your phone is near, then join your logbook.

### Is there an Apple Watch app?

No. The watch app is for Wear OS watches, which pair with Android phones.

### The watch says there's no active park.

Set today's park on your phone (**OPEN ON PHONE** takes you there), then tap **RESYNC** on the watch.

### My watch logs aren't on my phone yet.

They're kept on the watch until the two connect, and nothing is lost while they wait; an attraction with logs waiting shows a badge. Opening Cred Count on the phone brings them in.

## iPad and Tablets <!-- tablets, tablet_mac -->

Cred Count runs on iPad, Android tablets and unfolded foldables. On a big screen the tabs move down the side, and turned on its side, Explore and the Logbook open what you pick beside the list: a park beside your parks, a day beside your days. Drag or tap the handle between them to fold the list away. Phones stay upright; a big screen turns either way.

### Can I have the same logbook on my phone and my iPad?

Yes, through Google Drive backup on both, though not live. See [how two devices share a logbook](#can-i-use-cred-count-on-two-devices-like-a-phone-and-an-ipad).

## Settings <!-- settings, settings -->

Settings is behind the gear on Today: today on the lock screen, How You Count, the theme, units, catalogue updates, your device ID and the legal documents.

### Can I have feet and mph?

Yes. Settings, **Units**: **Metric**, **Imperial**, or **UK** (feet and mph for rides, centimetres for riders), or set height, length, speed and minimum height one by one. Every figure in the app follows, share cards included.

### Does the app follow my phone's light or dark mode?

Not yet: choose **Dark**, **Light** or **High contrast** in Settings, **Theme and Ground**. High contrast also comes on by itself when your phone's increase-contrast setting is on.

### Where is my device ID?

Settings, **Device ID**. Tap it to copy. You'll need it for a privacy request.

### Where are backups and exports?

In the Logbook, under **Tools**, not in Settings.

## Your Privacy <!-- privacy, lock_outline -->

Cred Count has no accounts, no analytics, no crash reporter and no advertising, and it never asks for your location. Your logs, ratings, notes and trips stay on your phone. The [privacy policy](/privacy) says exactly what reaches us and why.

### What reaches your server?

Your phone fetching catalogue updates; Smart Import's sample, if you use it; corrections and listings you choose to send; and emails you write. Everything we handle is in Europe.

### How do I ask you to delete what I sent?

Email your device ID (Settings, **Device ID**) to <privacy@credcount.app>. We delete everything sent from that install. If you're about to uninstall, copy your device ID first: it goes with the app.

### How do I get a copy of my data?

It's already yours, on your phone. Logbook, **Tools**: a Backup File, or a spreadsheet of your logs or your creds.
